If you think you are obsessed with how your hair looks then you clearly haven’t seen or heard of the Icelandic artist Hrafnhildur Arnardóttir who goes by the name of Shoplifter in the art world. The artist once found out that texture and flow of hair when layered together gave him,”painterly tapestry feeling” and that was just the start of it. Shoplifter then experimented with different hair extensions and colours and finally went ahead with neon shades of hair for her solo show at Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma in Helsinki, Finland.
The artist used neon palette which included bright yellows, vibrant greens, vivid pinks and blues to make a statement and made the installation immersive by giving it a cave-like structure. Her work does come across as weird but it is actually a statement on fashion and beauty industry. Shoplifter explains, “It started out with my fascination with humans and the things we mass produce for obscure reasons. Hair extensions are trying to beautify yourself and be unique.”
