iPhone 12 release date, speculations and rumored specs

Apple revealed the iOS 14 on June 22^nd at the WWDC developer’s conference which involved significant software update on the iPhone 12 front. This gave us a window into what the new model would offer in terms of its latest features such as libraries for apps, picture in picture and widgets. Other than this, Apple is likely to offer four different variants which would include the base iPhone 12 model, iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 12 Max and iPhone 12 Pro Max, following in the steps of iPhone 11. These would further include variants for either 4G or 5G, making it a lot for what Apple usually offers. Moreover, there are also reports of the iPhone 12 Plus having a big screen handset without the specs and the hardware getting a major spruce, even bigger than the removal of the home button on the iPhone X.

Features of the iPhone 12

There is also rumour about Apple adding a new shade to the iPhone 12 as they did with the iPhone 11 Pro and Pro max. They came in a shade of green which might not be everyone’s cup of tea but it did sell quite well. This year, they might go for the navy blue color for the iPhone 12 Pro.

Camera

Another feature to be added to the iPhone 12 is a 3D depth sensing back camera along with a change in the variety of screen sizes offered. There are a few concept designs out there depicting the phone’s camera with an additional lens at the back, making it a total of four cameras. It is also possible that Apple decided to add a LiDAR sensor like it did with the iPad Pro, so it’s not actually a fourth camera lens.

iPhone 12 screen size

The different sizes that are said to be available for the iPhone 12 would include one of the variants to have a 5.4 inch screen while the iPhone 2020 Pro Max can possibly measure as big as 6.7 inches and the other two around 6.1 inches.

Display

According to some rumors, the iPhone 12 will have a display with refresh rate of 120 Hz and ProMotion which, at the moment, is a feature only available on an iPad Pro. Samsung and OnePlus currently have phones that have a refresh rate of 120Hz but this would be a first for an iPhone. Presently, their phones refresh at 60 Hz and so, this will be a really good upgrade, allowing faster scrolling abilities. However, according to another recent report, Apple might not be able to pull off 120 Hz as it needs to include a low-power display technology that might prove to be difficult this year.

Price: Maybe cheaper than iPhone 11

From the looks of it, the price of the iPhone 12 is likely to stay in line with that of iPhone 11, meaning that the basic model would be relatively cheaper along with some changes which will not be extreme.

According to a report, the price of the new iPhone might go up since there has been an increase in the cost of materials. However, the official announcement is yet to be made.

Battery life

Two of the Pro variations of the iPhone 12 are reportedly going to be using OLED, which is going to be less expensive and slimmer as compared to the screens that were used for iPhone 11 which may also lead to an improvement in the battery life.

Another rumor suggests that Apple would not be including a power adapter along with this launch and they won’t be giving complimentary wired earphones like they usually do either. Hence, in a way, whatever the price comes up to be, you might be getting less than what you actually paid for. However, this might also mean that this is their way of reducing cost of material used and so, the packaging would be comparatively compact resulting in a lower shipping cost.
