Exposure to UV rays is the leading cause of skin damage, even up to the extent of causing skin cancer. L’Oréal, a French company which specializes in the field of skin care and beauty products has introduced a new product, the La Roche-Posay My Skin Track UV sensor which tracks the number of UV rays your skin gets exposed to. As UV rays can penetrate through most surfaces, even the clothes we wear, therefore, it is necessary to keep a track before it becomes deadly.
The sensor can be clipped to any fabric you’re wearing. As it is NFC based, there are no batteries. The device communicates via any platform based smartphone with the exception that the device is NFC enabled. The sensor can accumulate data of up to 3 months and keep track of both the variants of UV rays, UVA and UVB which can be fatal if exposed to in excess. This information can be displayed on your smartphone through its personalized application which is available on both iOS and Android.

When the user is approaching the limit of UV exposure, or they have exceeded it, the app notifies the user to seek shade. The sensor can not only measure your exposure to UV rays but can also determine the levels of humidity, pollen, and air quality.
If you have an iOS-based device, you can have the data from the sensor to integrate with Apple’s HealthKit application.
L’Oréal has previously unveiled the prototype, UV sense at last year’s CES show. The latest La Roche-Posay UV sensor is based on the prototype and has exceeded the people’s expectations.
The La Roche-Posay UV sensor is now on sale in US Apple’s merchandise stores, valued at $59.95. Many other cheaper knockoff versions are already available in the market.
