Carrying out strenuous and laborious tasks can have a damaging effect on the body and lead to injuries. In order to prevent this from happening, Italian company Comau, in collaboration with Icelandic orthopedic company OSSUR and Italy’s IUVO, has created MATE (Muscular Aiding Tech Exoskeleton) that wraps around the worker’s body to reduce the effect of physically damaging tasks.

The assistive exoskeleton uses coil springs that lie inside two “torque generators” to provide support to the worker’s shoulders as they carry out their everyday activities. MATE also prevents the user from rotating their shoulder joints beyond a certain point that could cause potential harm.

You can also modify the settings of MATE by setting it to one of five available settings depending on the type of work to be done. Not only that, workers can choose between seven assistance levels. Available in only two sizes, the 3 kg support also improves posture, precision of repetitive tasks and enables a quality output.
