Universal steps of using an avocado: Cut into half, throw the useless and heavy seed away and then scoop out the avocado flesh to put to use. Well, the last two steps kind of flip when it comes to the Mexican company BioFase.
The company has taken an ingenious approach towards solving one-time plastic use and that too, by using the apparently “useless” avocado seeds. BioFase transforms the leftover seeds thrown by guacamole and oil manufacturers into all sorts of cutlery that are not only durable but biodegrade as well in just 240 days! Scott Mungía, the founder of the company took two years to design and develop the technology and to say that his efforts have been successful is an understatement. BioFase is currently producing 130 tons of “avoplast” per month with the help of only 14 employees in total.
