Nowadays “sheet masks” have become a quick and easy way of facial skin care. These masks hydrate the skin while also providing essential nutrients, needed for a glowing skin. The size of these masks is standardized to accommodate all, which means they’re not always a perfect fit for everyone. Neutrogena’s MaskiD system customizes these 3D sheet masks, according to the features and shape of each of the consumers’ faces.
The first step is to take a selfie with a smartphone, which is used to develop the 3D digital map of the client’s face. It gives information about the client’s face such as the spaces between the different features of their face and about the shape and size of their nose to design a mask that fits their face perfectly.

Then using the Skin360 system, which was formerly released by Neutrogena, they acquire intricate details about their skin such as specifications of the wrinkles or lines on their face or information about how hydrated different areas of their facial skin are. The system comprises of an imaging device called the Skin Scanner, which is firmly attached to a smartphone with the app that procures the needed information.
The data from both the 3D digital map and the Skin360 system is then uploaded onto a server. Neutrogena uses the data on the server to print a 3-dimensional batch of sheet masks that have been created according to the specific client’s facial structure. The hydrogel used in the making of the masks is also comprised of cellulose which is derived from red seaweed and locust beans and it is planted in six different areas of the mask.

The red seaweed and locust beans contain substances that rejuvenate the skin, they consist of vitamin B3 which reduces blemishes; purified hyaluronic acid, it increases the moisture retaining capacity of the skin; stabilized glucosamine, which reduces the number of wrinkles and exfoliates the skin; feverfew, it diminishes redness; and lastly vitamin C, which brightens the person’s skin tone.
The MaskiD system will at first be made available to the clients in the United States and the cost of the system will be released sometime between July and September this year, on the official website of Neutrogena.
