The Aston Martin Rapide E was finally unveiled at the Auto Shanghai show. This is Aston Martin’s first fully electric car that has been developed in collaboration with Williams Advanced Engineering. The car is fully developed and ready to hit the road.
The details of the car were released last year. The Rapide E will have a range of over 322 km and a top speed of 250 km/h. The specifications of the car include a 603 HP and 950 Nm torque creating engine that is run on two motors. The engine is a 6 liter V12 which is accompanied by a 65 kWh battery and is protected by Kevlar. The engine runs on 800 V which allows for charging at a rate of 100 kW and charges the battery from 0% to 80% in almost 30 minutes. Also, the AC charger tops up the car in downwards of three hours.
Now that the car has been exhibited, we have a proper look at the interior and body. The interior looks luxurious with a lot of leather. The orthodox and full dashboard has been replaced by a 10-inch color display that shows you the regenerative braking performance, battery charge, and power output so that you know exactly how much work you’re getting from that beautiful engine. To control the power delivery and handling characteristics, this comes with three driving modes as well, namely, GT, Sport, and Sport+.
A dedicated smartphone app is made to show parameters like current range and the remaining charge time. Sat-nav instructions are sent to the vehicle remotely, which makes it convenient to locate it in crowded car parks. According to Aston Martin, the car has been made with both their and Williams’ engineering teams coming together “to extract the optimal aerodynamic performance from Rapid E’s elegant forms.”
All in all, the Aston Martin Rapide E looks like a clear winner for the company as it breaks into the all-electric market. According to the company, only 155 models will be made for sale. The car is up for sale, and the price tag is rumored to be around £250,000.
