Sono Motors’ solar powered ‘Sion’ uses dead moss for air purification
This is an era of science and technology. Everyday scientists and researchers are looking for better options to make the survival easier by making great innovations. Also, we know that we are blessed with a beautiful nature and environment and it is totally up to human beings how they can use maximum benefits from these natural resources.
The sun is powerful source of energy. We are aware that how solar energy can be easily used by installing solar panels. However, we can utilize only 0.001 percent of that energy. Nowadays, solar energy and solar panels are a trending topic. Apart from the criticism of being expensive and less efficient, solar energy has now proved its fruitful features.
Cars are everyone’s favourite and there is no doubt how they are helpful in everyday life. The dream of solar-powered car is becoming a reality. Yes! You heard it right. A German start-up Sono Motors, recently introduced solar-powered electric car which can travel up to 18 miles using just solar energy. It was a year ago that they raised over $200,000 to bring SION to life. SION can store enough energy using 300 photovoltaic panels. But if you want to go further, then SION can also recharge using a standard outlet.
Like any other car, five passengers can be easily seated. Six airbags are available so that everyone can be kept safe. Also, a unique moss liner is present in the ventilation system acting as natural air filter. A 10 inch smart screen is available through which you can see your speed, battery level and everything else you need to drive safely.
Sono claims on its website that “To offer the positive effects for the temperature and humidity inside the SION, it uses electrostatic gravitation to filter up to 20 percent of particulate matter out of the air”. A new mobility system has also been announced by Sono motors known as “goSono”. You can easily use the vehicle as a mobile storage to power external devices with Sono App and the function of the bi-directional charging.
Back in 2017, the SION was designed as an affordable electric vehicle. But this year it debuted with a 35-kilowatt hour battery and body full of solar panels. By using solar panels, it can charge itself and can give extra 24 kilometres (21 miles) to the car’s 250 kilometres range (approximately 155 miles).
Over 10,000 pre-orders for the SION has already been received and the company is hoping to start the series production of the model in the second half of 2020 with a total of 260,000 vehicles being produced. One of the best parts of SION is that it is not just for the rich people. Also, Sono stated, “Delivery of SEV will be in a version costing 25,500 euros (approximately 28,100 USD)”.
