A lot of people nowadays suffer from social anxiety and it is certainly dreadful. However, people like Karen Jerzyk turn this dreadful anxiety into a beautiful yet statement-making art. The artist got hold of an authentic vintage high-altitude space costume in 2017 and since then she has travelled all around the world taking photographs of different women wearing the spacesuit against very different backgrounds. The different settings include an isolated theatre, a vintage bedroom and even laundry room. Titled, “A Lonely Astronaut”, the series has been captured by using only practical effects to show these women sometimes interacting with their environment and sometimes standing apart in the frames.
The artist shares, “I think at one time or another, we can all relate with The Lonely Astronaut—things in life can get bad, but there’s still no denying the beauty and wonder of the world, and we need to push on and keep exploring.”
