The new Segway Drift W1 e-Skates look like hover boards, except each foot has its own

We’re assuming that Segway has taken an oath to mass-produce the weirdest methods of transportation because they just keep coming up with strange stuff all year round!

Take the new Segway Drift W1s, for instance. These hybrid roller-shoes look like hover boards, except each foot has its own!  This new technology is apparently the first one ever in Segway’s e-Skates section and its embedded self-balancing feature takes inspiration from the original Segway scooter- that lets its users turn in any direction without falling over.

Although this might be an attempt by Segway to replace roller blades, it’s not really required. Kids still love the good old skates. Nonetheless, it doesn’t deter the company from calling Drift W1s the latest trend of 2018!

The company enthusiastically announced, “The new Segway Drift W1 brings all the fun and coolness you expect from Segway’s consumer products line, combined with the high-quality engineering consumers expects from the Segway brand.”

From the images presented by Segway, the shoes fit right under your foot, so there’s really no room to mess up. The tires provide stability and allow the user to change directions. With the installed slip-resistant foot mats, one is also safe while wearing the roller-shoes. Of course, with practice comes perfection. It takes a little while to get used to the new transportation technology so it’s safe to say, users will have to sustain a few slips before they get the hang of it. But worry not! Segway offers a free helmet with each pair you buy so at least your head will be safe from the fall.

Weighing 7.7 pounds, the shoes will take you up to a top speed of 7.5 miles per hour. Your ride-time will depend upon the style and terrain on which you choose to ride on. Segway does provide us an expected operational time of 45 minutes before the W1s require recharge.

However, you won’t be the only one falling. Your bank balance is bound to do so as well given that a pair of Drift W1s cost $400. Nonetheless, interested buyers should know that shipping will begin sometime in August.
