Starting off as just a kid’s toy and then making its way into TV shows, movies and comic books, the transformers have become increasingly popular in the past few years. Robosen Robotics has now revealed the T9, which can activate transformation.
There is a variety of toys available in the transformer robot category but the majority of them need to be physically adjusted to convert from a robot into a car or any other form it might be able to take. Similar to the robots we watch on TV, the T9 is perfect for developing a kid’s interest in robotics and programming.
It claims to be the first transformer that converts from robot to vehicle and the other way round, and it can be controlled using a mobile application or voice commands. It walks, dances, races and even does pushups on demand.
You could either use a tablet or a phone and connect it to the device via Bluetooth and use the app available for android and iOS to operate the T9. The specific voice commands that may be used are straightforward and not that hard to remember.
The design of the robot is created using the manual, visual and 3D graphics programming platforms. There are tutorials online for anyone who wants to learn the skill of coding. You can even craft and customize a move for the T9 and it will be saved in its memory and it has enough storage capacity for thousands of moves that you can store to use anytime. There is an online community by Robosen that offers support and new ideas where you can collaborate with others for inspiration.
The T9 weighs approximately 1.48 kg irrespective of the mode, which also includes a 2000 mAh battery pack. The frame of the robot is made out of aluminum alloy with a polycarbonate shell and an ABS. The measurement of the robot is 10.4 x 6.4 x 13.3 inches and when it’s in vehicle mode, it is 11.2 x 7.7 x 5.8 inches. It contains 23 proprietary chips and for moving the joints, it has 22 Robosen servo motors that use AI algorithms to operate.
It started as a Kickstarter project that gained attention and support from nearly 250 investors in previous year. The latest version was presented at CES 2020 and you can now buy it for US$499.
