This girl explores unfamiliar destinations through local foods
A lot of people go out in the world to travel however every traveller steps out of the comfort of a familiar place for entirely different purposes. As eccentric as it sounds, Melissa Hie of Girl Eat World travels the world for its history but her route to that is not through landscape or landmarks but through the local food!
Hie discovers local food in all her travels and then captures them in her trademark compositional shot which features the food in her hand behind the blurry backdrop of the city she is in. The photograph is followed by a detailed caption, explaining the historical or cultural reference of the local speciality.
“It’s always been about authentic food from wherever I go, like sushi in Japan, or a Hello Kitty doughnuts in Japan, just because Hello Kitty is so famous from Japan,” Hie explains. “It’s kind of a food that has a story about the place as well, so I can tell more interesting trivia along with the image.”
