Green architecture is the new hip trend these days and we have nothing to complain about it since it is not only a breath of fresh air in the midst of concrete building but it’s actually good for us and the environment. Stefano Boeri Architetti has been one of the pioneer architects working on eco-friendly buildings and has once again bagged the contract to design a vertical forest building, Hawthorn Tower in Holland.
Architetti has planned to infuse as many as 30 vegetal species, equivalent to one hectare of woods in the building so that it is able to sequester an expected target of 5.4 tons of carbon dioxide from the environment. The vertical forest will be erected in the middle of Jaarbeurs boulevard area, which is nearby Utrecht Station and will surely make up to be a spectacular bridge between nature and the urban landscape.
The Hawthorn Tower will also feature offices, yoga and fitness centers, bicycle parking and a leisure space for the public. Moreover, the ground floor of the building will be occupied by Vertical Forest Hub which is a research center dedicated for global forestation in urban areas. The research center will be directly linked with the rooftop garden on the 6th floor of the building. The research center and the garden will be open to the public so that they can be aware of different botanical solutions that were adopted during the designing and construction of the tower. Vertical Forests have come up as the most sustainable solution to counteract the phenomenon of deforestation to meet the demand of urbanization and Hawthorn Tower will be contributing to the very purpose of balancing the environmental needs with the development demands.
