Do you ever just sit and wonder what the future will be like? Will we have identification chips embedded in our wrists instead of cards in our wallets? Will there be teleportation? Well, we might not have answers to those questions yet but Volkswagen has shared its concept car so let’s see what the near future will be like.
Volkswagen recently added a fourth car to its futuristic I.D lineup of concepts that it revealed at the Geneva Motor Show. This fourth addition is called the Vizzion which is basically a long, low sedan that has no pedals or steering wheel, meaning it’ll have the autonomous self-driving features. The company aims to introduce electric motors in its lineup by the year 2030 with a goal to have at least 20 electrified cars by the year 2025.
If you have been keeping up with the other I.D concepts, you’ll notice that Vizzion’s power resembles that of Buzz bus, Crozz crossover and the original I.D. According to the company, Vizzion has a 11kWh battery that allows the car to cover 665 kilometers on a single charge. The integration of dual electric motors further boosts the car’s power output to 225 kW with a maximum speed of 180 kilometers per hour which translates to 112 miles per hour.
Since there isn’t really a need for a driver, so one can just chill at the back with the passengers and enjoy the ride. The ‘virtual host’ feature incorporated in the Vizzion will keep the passengers entertained; this feature can be operated through a gesture or voice control. According to Volkswagen, this digital assistant will learn the preferences of guests over time and thus making the experience more exciting. It might be hard to grasp this concept since not all features and specifications have been revealed, but one can imagine it to be more like an entertainment system on flights where each passenger has the freedom to choose as well as adjust their seating positions, temperature etc.
As Volkswagen calls it, the ‘digital chauffeur’ will drive the Vizzion without mentioning the self-driving technology they have adopted. In collaboration with Audi, Volkswagen has been working on its own self-driving technologies. It recently signed a contract with Aurora Innovation, a startup by Google’s self-driving guru Chris Urmson. This means that things are going well for Volkswagen when it comes to mastering the autonomous pod. While announcing the Aurora partnership, Volkswagen’s Chief Digital Officer Johann Jungwirth said, “The primary focus right now of this partnership is the Sedric family of urban pods, urban shuttles, and so on, and other vehicles specifically designed and purposely built for mobility as a service. That is not to be mixed up with the rest of the 360 models of vehicles our brands have in their portfolio, now and with next generations.”
