Back in 2010, BYD Auto, an auto maker company based in China, launched their 40-ft long range people carrier. In 2013, they brought around 35 vehicles that aided transport in the Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam. In 2014, we saw the rise of the world’s largest battery electric vehicle. Last week, the K12A was brought to life – a 27 meter long electric bus that has the capacity to accommodate up to 250 passengers.
On Tuesday, the 2nd of April 2019, the remarkable transport system was launched at BYD’s Shenzhen headquarters. The flexibility of this piece of machinery is what grasps attention. A 4WD setup has been embedded to the vehicle being the first of its kind. This allows it to switch between a two wheel drive and a four wheel drive with much ease, according to the requirements of the route of your choice.
The bus is equipped with proprietary batteries, electric motors and electronic controls, all of which ensure it to remain top notch. The bus was developed for global Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) Systems and can accommodate up to 250 people at a time. It can attain high speeds of up to 70km/h and can travel up to 300 km before it requires recharge, which means it can easily carry out operation for a whole day. You can also alternate between AC and DC charging ports to suit your need.
“The K12A will bring zero emissions to BRT systems, allowing passengers to enjoy quiet, pollution-free travel, while at the same time saving significant maintenance costs for operator,” said BYD’s Stella Li.
